Nice ones Peter, I like the first one best though. It is the symmetry that looks great.

Both taken when I visited Great Dixter recently. The garden was pretty dry and due to the hot weather most of the plants are in full bloom already, earlier than some of them should be.

Thanks Peter, glad you like it. Here is the original right out of camera. I just cropped and did a feathered vignette in Lightroom, then adjusted contrast brightness black point and all that stuff to try and make the flower pop a bit more from the vignette. Then to Elements for some more tone adjustments (can't remember them all but usually levels and colours) sharpening and resizing.

I like the experiment a lot Wendy, much better than the original. It probably won't work for all flowers, but this one really stands out now.

I like your first one best Bryan, nice details there and good focus on the flower. The second one has beautiful colors, but the background distracts me a bit.

The iris looks good and the droplets do too, nice detail. But the background is a bit too busy for my taste. The iris is a big flower though, so getting more bokeh in your picture will be difficult.

This has made me want to go and take photos of flowers, will have to wait till the daffodils and Jonquils come out.

    Re: Macro flower photographs

Looking forward to it Emma. Here the climate has been so hot and dry that most flowers have come up long before they are supposed to. I am afraid of what that means for the end of summer , probably not much flowering then.

Papaver or poppy. Most times they are just one colour, but this one is different. And the blue pollen was a bonus I guess.

It's a great image and from what I've seen it seems fine to change the original background to black-call it 'artistic licence'

Just browsed this thread and what wonderful macro shots. My macro lens is quite heavy and I need a tripod so I use this,it saves kicking the tripod legs. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...g_Sliding.html

Damn that insolent bee, he should be honored to pose for you.
What lens did you use on the last three photographs, the 100mm as well. It is a nice effect from a bit further away.
