Hi Peter, the second Hamamelis picture is nice, I like the mirror effect if the out-of-focus image!
Happy 2013
Thanks Franci, best wishes for you as well and to everyone who contributed to the thread in 2012.

I'll leave you with my last flower of the year, a viola. It is the last flower still standing in my garden. Winter isn't hard this year, but the garden looks pretty bleak all the same.
Happy new year!!
The first blossom for 2013

It is funny, but given how mild the weather is there are actually a few flowers in my garden that start to come up. For their sake I hope that it isn't going to freeze. There is still a few months of winter to go, so it can happen. It would destroy some of the confused plants.

Anyway, this is from indoors, a few tulips.
Hi
I just joined a few hours ago and these are the first pics I've seen on CiC. FANTASTIC!! Inspired me to get a decent but budget Macro for my new Nikon D7000. I want to experiment with a budget lens before I invest in higher quality. Recommendations please.
Will
Hi Will, my recommendation would probably be to read some reviews of lenses you like pricewise online. My only experience is with the 105mm VR, which is a great lens, but not exactly budget. There are a few others, from Nikon and other brands, so there should be ample choice.
You could also look for a good used lens. I know that the D type lens from Nikkor is quite good.
I really hesitate to add anything of mine here... :o
Most of the photos in this thread look like they belong on the wall of a museum.
But - I like this one and will give it a go...

Ha ha, you are modest Susan. Good looking photo, I really like the colour of that flower and the texture you have on the leaves. The only little thing that distracts me when I look at it is the different coloured leaves at the top. Maybe a slight crop would have helped there.
But great purple.
Thank you Peter and Dave! I've got a lot to learn, but I am working at it...

Witch-hazel, still flowering.
We had friends over for dinner and they brought us a nice bouquet.
