    Hi Peter,

    adding to Andrea's suggestions:
    1) ice cream at Giolitti, between Pantheon and Parliament. It might be crowded but it is on of the best ice creams in Rome
    2) coffee or whatever at Caffe Greco: it is expensive, but it is the oldest cafe in Rome, Venetian style with old paintings at walls. An aperitive for 2 will be 20 to 30 euros, but the place might be worth the money.
    3) coffee or "granita di caffe con panna" at La tazza d'Oro, just in front of Pantheon. It is closed on Sundays. Definitely it is the best coffee in Rome. Granita is crushed iced coffee; panna is whipped cream.
    4) A place we never tried but looks interesting: Palatium in via Frattina. It is a place where you you can taste food and wine from Lazio, the area around Rome.

    Have a nice holiday!

Ice cream sounds good, we have two Italian families in Haarlem, who make ice during the summer season and we love it.

By the way, what is customary in Rome? Sit down for coffee or drink it at the bar? It seems the prices vary in Italy, depending on where you take your coffee. We Dutch don't have that system.
And in a restaurant, do you tip the waiter and if so, by how much? That always confuses me. In Holland 10% is ok, but in the US 15-20% is more usual.

    Dear Peter,

I sent you a private message with the info. Probably it is better to continue outside the thread.

Not particularly a great photo, but these sunflowers came up under the bird feeder. Just had to try.

Good captures Peter. Especially the second one. I like more the angle of view.

I have to say before I post the photos that these are not my favourite flowers. In fact, I don't really like them. But, you don't always get to choose...

My problem with them is that they are not subtle at all. They are just there, big and colourful. Nothing really refined about them. Ah well.

Good catch, Nat. These are moss sporophytes, and they are carrying spores that eventually will be released when their caps come off. You should try to catch them when the caps come off, as you will see that they have teeth! The moss life cycle is fascinating. I just learned about it after discovering opened sporophytes with my macro lens last summer.

This is one of my own sporophyte shots, which I don't think I've posted on this forum. Apologies to Peter if it doesn't belong here. And apologies to you, if I've told you what you already know!
