    Re: Macro flower photographs

From Dave H. The only minor criticism is the bright-ish blade of grass in foreground of #2.
Agreed, I was so angry I pulled up dried brown grass, and moved twigs and pulled some other blades of grass and I missed this one but decided it would be to hard (for me) to clone so left it as is. Many thanks for the feedback and the encouragement which is always appreciated.

From Donald: Gorgeous flowers, beautifully photographed. Maybe the second one could have done without the blurred petals in the background. But I don't think pulling them out just to get a picture could really be justified.
Many thanks Donald. I agree about the background flowers. I was purposely trying to keep them in the shot, but the result was not exactly what a wanted which was more of a solid mass of flowers or just a solid mass of blurred colour in the background. That's how it looks from a distance but when you get up close there is a lot of space between everything (Go figure ). I plan to try the same (type of) shot with the telephoto and the wide angle when I get a chance. I'm not sure which will give me the effect I'm looking for, (Noooo, don't tell me) tying is half the fun. but for now I'm happy with what I'm getting with these old close up filters which just happened to fit the kit lens.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone

Ha, this is a nice and somehow weird picture. I don't know what it is, maybe the DOF and the size of the flowers, but it looks awesome.

Edit: just looked them up on wikipedia and now I know what it is. They look like small daisies from the side (but are quite big), so that is what I expected to see somehow if you get my meaning

    Hi Peter,

These are all good, but I felt, with a little more PP (or attention when shooting), could be better

I hope you don't mind, but I thought demonstration would be preferrable to words ...
(inserted so we can flick between them and play 'spot-the-difference' in Lytebox)

As you can see, on all but last, the changes are really quite minor, so the rest must be good, eh?

    Hope that helps,

I like the last one best, with sunshine now on all of the flower. Although normally I wouldn't change the photo like that, it brings a nice improvement here. Definitely better looking now and with hindsight I should have made that change.
I also get what you did with the allium, it centers the attention more.
The one I don't understand though is the forget-me-not. It wouldn't bother me to be frank to leave it as is. Perhaps it is because I am having my bokeh period at the moment, I like these vague bits here and there.

It would be interesting to hear some more comments on this one, or how others look at these differences between the original and the altered one.
    Thanks Dave.
