Beautiful photo Bryan. The only thing I would comment on is the whiteness of the flower, the whites seem slightly overblown, so that the detail is lost slightly. Very nice contrast otherwise with all that nice darkness surrounding that spot of light

    Nice one Bryan,

The only thing I wonder is whether to try having the bloom and leaf across the image at an angle, rather than so 'horizontal'.

    Cheers,

Except I would have liked to maybe not have the lower bits so prominent - but live and learn!

Now this really appeals to me Ricco. You could always try a little localised guassian blur on that stamen, bottom right, just to fade it into the background more.

I am struggling with the name of this flower. My wife thinks it may be eupatorium.

I like this one especially Terence, that drop of water on the bright red.

Peter I have never seen one of these but it looks great. Looks almost as if it is a wire tree with little led's on.

    Anethum graveolens or dill

    As an aside:
At first glance, given the fact that dill is used in gravlax, I thought that the term gravlax was partly derived from the Latin name of dill.
Not true apparently: According to Wikipedia (not infallible, but still...) The word gravlax comes from the Scandinavian word grav, which literally means "grave" or "to dig" (in Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch and Estonian), and lax (or laks), which means "salmon", thus gravlax means "buried salmon"

And still the wonderful images roll on ! The variety is limitless.

Here's my latest attempt, some sort of grass flower.

Beautiful colours and they pop out nicely. The only thing I noticed is a sort of halo around the edges, how did you get that?

    Hi Peter

I think the halo resulted from me putting some extra Gaussian blur on the background using Photoshop. Not sure why.

Here is the same shot before the extra blur was added.

    Cheers Dave

    Re: Water Lily

Thanks Peter and Thanks Dave for the great feedback. Unfortunately it was pretty well into the day (giving the bright light). And to top it off, the water was covered with small debris.

I like the idea of a angled image. I played with rotating this one, but it just didn't seem natural. I'll try to go earlier for better light and pay closer attention to the reflections to see if I can come up with something a little more interesting.

    Thanks again.
