Gorgeous. Color, focus, and background are all perfect.

Nice one! The water droplets really add something.
The title is good, as well. There's a guy on flickr who posted a dying flower and called it "Finished"

Nice composition. Out of habit I would probably have started cropping away on the left side, but this looks really good.

Nice shiny detail on the yellow Anatoliy. How close can you get with this 600mm lens in terms of focusing?

Thanks George. I got a bit lucky with the background as it seems to wrap down and around the flower.

Thanks Peter. I did try a crop but I feel that the space helps to emphasize the loneliness of the flower. It is rare to find a nice specimen with nothing else around it (I often find myself pushing away other flowers, picking out leaves, etc.) I think the left tilt of the flower does help to balance the open space a bit too.

I really like the composition with the space on the left. I have taken some myself with similar "space" and it works for me as well. The blue in the background really highlights the flower well.

    Thanks for posting!

Here is two for your opinion, and that of others as well.

    Hi Darlene,

I like the first image, the background looks nice against the great colours of the flower.

In the second image I would be tempted to try cropping out the brown flower in the bottom right to eliminate this contrasting colour. It is drawing my eye. Without it you would have a wonderful green background and the highlight of the details on the flower petals.

I agree with Herbert on the second photo and maybe I would have tried to let the colour of the flower pop out a bit more.
The first flower looks good, but there I would crop out some of the background on the right. The colour of the background is nice, but there is nothing in it, so for me too much of a good thing

Reworked both with your suggestions. How did I do? Thanks for your comments.

I like them better this way. The green background looks nice, it's almost like there is movement in there, but nothing that is disturbing.

Thank you. The lens was 300 mm and closest distance to focus is 2.5 meters. I was taking pictures of great white egret and had extender 2.0 attached. I think, I was as far away from the flower as 3 to 5 meters. I found exif info stated that "subject distance: 287/100". I guess it's 2.87 m then.

    Red and Yellow

A couple of simple images I took today. I'd be interested to hear what you think of them. I'm not sure what the second flower is, some sort of daisy perhaps.

    Cheers Dave

I like the colours against the background. I am guessing that you used a standard background, but it works well, nice contrast. The composition is ok, but it could use a bit more tension if you get my drift. The flowers are spot on in the middle, so I find my eye going to the center spot and not moving around at all.

Thanks for the feedback Peter. The background was a piece of dark cloth. I'll re-look at the crops I did, experiment with something not so central.

    Cheers Dave

Nice photos Chris. I liked the form of the first one's subject especially, but the third made the biggest impression, although I had to look twice before I realized what it was. Nice capture

This is one of the threads that, because it's not something that I shoot, I don't come into as often as I should.

And then when you do .............! They're wonderful. Some stunning stuff.

Keep it going folks. And I promise I'll look in more often.
