I posted just for fun - I couldn't decide which one to post, so I put them both up.
I think I like both, but any C&C is welcomed.

Taken on my Dimage Z3, no PP.

I think I like the second best Robin, probably because the flower itself is sharp in that one. Just better to look at.

I really liked the texture of this (older) rose.

After lurking around a loooong time, here my first post. Not really macro...
    Taken with canon 7D 24-105mm lens at f6.3 1/160sec iso 1000.
    Comments appreciated.
    Is DOF ok ?
    What about saturation?
    Background too busy ?
    Thanks for looking.

Hi Rudi, good to see your post. I like the photo. The main subject has great colour.
Maybe I would have commented on the amount of dark green in the background, if the other little purple buds had not been there. As it is though, it works for me. They balance out the dark background enough.
Maybe a bit more crop would work better, but I am not sure of that.
The DOF looks fine, nothing unpleasant there.

    Hi Robin.

Contrary to Peter, I like the first more: the central stamen is very neat and the large flower makes a very agreable background.
Not so surprising that you could not make up your mind, in the end!

Well from my point of view you both summed it up perfectly.

When I look at the first one I love the way the central stamen 'pops',

Then when I look at the secone one and the edge of the petals they are sharp, and I like that.

They were my earliest macro shots, and have had no PP.

Thanks for your input Peter. I tried a tighter crop and for me it works better.
Very nice pictures in this tread BTW.

    Re: Macro flower photographs

I experimented a bit with long exposures this week. Two flowers were done that way.

    Macro flower photographs

    Narcissus
Nikkor 105mm VR; 30 second exposure at F/10 and ISO160

    Macro flower photographs

    Rose
    Nikkor 105mm VR; 30 seconds at F/8 and ISO160

I like the rose best. The narcissus is ok, but lacks a bit of pop I think.

    They are both very nice!!
Narcissus: The flower on the left is maybe a bit too bright, 'competing' with thee 'main' subject.
Rose: Very nice colour. I do like the out off focus bud in the top right corner. I would be tempted to clone out the leaf in the bottom right corner. The rose is my favourite.
    Just my two cent......
    Regards,Rudi

    I agree with Peter,
I like very much the composition and in my opinion the DOP is perfect, since it isolates quite well the flower and, at the same time, it keeps enough detail on the buds in background. Actually I think that those buds are a key element in defining the composition.

Thanks Rudi. I know, I know...that leaf. As the photo was more about long exposure anyway, I decided to leave it in.
I didn't spot it in the half dark, so it is a good reminder for me to check more thorougly next time when I photograph in these circumstances. A flashlight would have helped.

Nice one Franci. I am seeing the first flowers come up in my garden. This one is from inside though...

I am struggling with the name I have to admit.
