Went to the Thunderbirds Airshow Today

Did okay (in my ever-loving humble opinion) on a borrowed camera and a short lens 28-105, Nikon D5000 shooting aperture priority at f/10..anyway, had a great time and got to take a young lad who'd never been to an airshow, so it was a double treat.

One of our local TV stations allows its viewers to post picture for use on the news. Tonight, I hit the jackpot with four images. The one I submitted for a competition, the Trainers, the Five Plane Formation and the bright sunny beach shot.

I was thrilled I got the Starbusrt shot as it is considered one of the hardest to get. Can't wait to get my new lenses. Oh, and thanks for the comments...it's good to hit one once in awhile.

And one more composition shot of a roll sequence. I am quite sure there is another, less complicated way of creating this and had I of had my camera, I planned to shoot some of these as movie files, then extract them frame by frame...oh well.

Your story proves again for me that the camera isn’t making the pictures. Only a device that assists you with the making of your picture. Sometimes in the wrong direction but that’s the fun of the device.

What was strange for me, is that had I of been shooting with my film camera, I would have had all the confidence in the world - I guess because of the familiarity aspect. Yet, once I began to see the success of my shots as found the rhythm of the pan, I did what I did with my old way of life...I shot and the camera became a mere extension of my eye. To this end, I think you are quite right; the camera is just a tool; it is our vision, "the mind's eye," which creates the artistic interpretation.
