Jazz Musician results...am I too old to be a groupie?

..Of course I am, but who cares!
Well here are a couple of shots of our famous visitor!
He was fantastic to listen to, I must say - he just chatted away answering the kids questions and played with some of the staff and students - then stayed till every single one who wanted to had their photo taken with him.

The local newspaper even sent a 'real' tog, but never fear I elbowed them out of the way easily enough.

The guys setting up the lights were really helpful when I went early showed them a shot taken in the chapel and explained what I was trying to avoid.
They then put in some coloured as opposed to bright white spots and placed them in a more side lit manner than blasting front on - so I was very thankful.

I will spend some time editing the best of him with the students on the weekend - but here are some to share with you now.



the different coloured lights seem to add to the 'theatre gig' nature they were trying to get, which seem ok photographically - there are still some big shadows, but I was to the side as well.



Here he was making the point to the kids that it's not all about what instrument or mouthpiece etc etc you have - sure really good gear helps, but he said it helps him to get the sound he wants to make, more easily.
To make his point he held up a trumpet, away from him to his side - told them how it was a very good very expensive one etc..... then said, "doesn't sound very good though does it"...
the person and how much they practice and learn is more important..

Changing the lighting made all the difference in the world, as did using the posters as a backdrop as opposed to that hideos red curtain. given the paramenter of the better setup, I'd say you done well, Missy!

You did quite well, Kay. Best of all, I believe he is a very good musician because of his perspective. No wonder Music and Photography share the same discipline.

Lucky, lucky you to hear this 'Great'! I can't wait to see more photos and I could hear "it" preached over and over again, couldn't you? I'll be a groupie with you! You know - there needs to be a gaggle.
