Hills before a storm

Hello all:

I'm about one month into my first DSLR, and have fallen down the rabbit hole...

Looking forward to learning all I can from this community.

Please comment .... what's left of the afternoon sun was shining on the middle hill only.

Aren't the hills here in California great? Green in the winter and golden in the summer!

As for your image, I know from experience it is difficult to get a decent exposure in these conditions. Meaning, either the foreground would be too dark or the contrast in the light area would be too low, but this is good. If this was my image, I think I would crop out the foreground by maybe a quarter of the canvas or a bit more. To me, the focus of the image is the contrast in greens/brightness and the undulating lines of the hills themselves. I don't know if you have done any post processing, but I might also try and bring out the clouds a little more.

I covered a bit of the bottom of your image, and I agree with mike a crop helps .. Great shot by the way.I think you"ll like this site.

Looks verrry familiar to me . . . I have to agree; I think a narrower crop, almost panoramic, would be great.

Agreed. If you chopped out some of that dead space at the bottom it would improve the image. I remember seeing a book of something like these of the British Columbia Rockies. If you work them right they can be beautiful. However, the sky wasn't doing you any favours here.
