R straps vs Q straps

Hi:

anybody throw some ideas around the Q straps camera straps?
Sounds like lot more cheaper than the R straps while not sacrificing the quality.
Q straps sounds like more popular in Asia as I have priblem in finding one in North America

Besides the price, I am still wondering how to install the locking screw if my camera and 200mm lens already installed Kirk quick plate for Custom bracket.

Or whether Q strap or R straps mainly design for hand held camera without the quick plates.
If it is the case, then the straps is not quite convenience indeed. As we still best rely on monopod especially with 200mm for best result.

Hi Bill...

I often have my RRS L bracket on my camera which poses a problem for the R type strap. Additionally, I don't want a camera dangling from the tripod socket - especially when equipped with a long (heavy) lens and/or a full size flash unit such as the 550EX. I don't believe that the tripod socket is built to carry that amount of weight swinging around. (This would especially be true of the Rebel tripod sockets which are plastic with metal threads)

I use a OPTECH Dual Harness when I carry my two cameras. It works great and distributes the weight of the cameras/lenses across my shoulders. I also like the fact that I can disconnect my camera from the Dual Harness and use the connecting straps to attach it to an OPTECH neck strap. Finally I occasionally (very occasionally) find the need to use three cameras on a shoot. I can use two on the Dual harness and one on a neck strap and have no problems.

I also like the fairly reasonable price of the Dual Harness.

Sure, it seems to be a more comfortable (Less scary) way to hang the camera. and also solve the problem in adding the Strap screw on top of the added brakcet's quick plate.

Thank you, I had ordered a dual harness from optechusa.com
Though it may look less "Style" than the "R" or "Q" brand which swinging the camera here and there, I agreed to the optech in using the 3/8" connectors and also it will allow me to keep all the fast plate at the bottom of my camera.

Here's a trick that I use with my OPTECH Dual Harness. I have a cheap. lightweight carabiner clip (The kind used for key chains rather than the heavy duty mountain climbing versions) attached to either my side belt loops or the side adjustment straps of my photo vest if I am wearing one. I clip the camera strap to the carabiner when I am running, climbing or otherwise traveling fast.

This keeps the cameras right next to my hips instead of having them free swinging. It is a safer way to carry the cameras because they won't swing out from your side and crack into anything. I also tend to thing that it might be more difficult for a thief to get the camera away from me. However, that last part my only be my imagination.
