Whilst the light is beautiful, I think there are too many patterns and shpes competing with each other in #2 and #3.
#5 is too close up for my tastes.
But then we have #1 and #4. I love what I would call the subtlety of #1. I know there's split background ( a bit of curtain; a bit of wall), but I like it. And #4 is a cracker. Lovely composition. Well exposed. Beautiful light on the petals.
Nice Katy: #4 WOW the colours the light the focus and composition are just beautiful.
I agree with Donald (what a surprise) about 2 and 3. They are both lovely, but just too much going on. If the curtains were a solid colour well..... I think it would be a different story.
On #5 there is that selective DOF thing again. Wirefox commented on it in my "Something New for Me" thread. I think this is the same problem. This one makes me squint and my eyes are trying to get the blurred front part of the image in focus. I love the concept but think it would be better if it was all in focus or the front or closest part of the flower was in focus. That's just me though, hmmmm what if you flipped it around? I really do like the sharp focus on the middle petal.
All in all I would say the subject matter is lovely and they are all quite nice but WOW, did I say that already? #4 is just beautiful.Nice going!!!
Wendy
I promise I didn't cheat and read other comments first.... I just had a peek at the images and #4 - #4 #4 I love it - it's terrifically technically....but much more than that..... it's you!![]()

Katy
Watch what Kay says. She cheats!
Oh .... she's just posted.
I swear I first saw these before anyone else had posted, but as I was at work and couldn't remember my password, I was unable to tell you how much I loved number 4.Great job, Katy. Keep 'em coming.
Excellent Janis!
& reports of my 'cheating' are all just a bit of scotch mist![]()
I also like #4 best Katy, nice light...great colors.
A fine set of images Katy - I do however find the patterned curtain a little distracting in 2 and 3. Like others No. 4 is my favorite - lovely sharp colourful petals and nicely blurred green foliage.
I really like No.4 for all the reasons, and more, given above by my betters in these things.![]()
Well, now, thank you, Everyone! You're so encouraging (and funny). I agree with you all, too. Well, almost.I thought that the pink flower in 2 and 3 was a bit distracting - I tried it in B&W but it, of course, turned into mush, being against the floral print of the curtain. Maybe, if I get some lovely, mellow evening light again, I could try it with just only the pitcher or, maybe, all white flowers. That's what I really liked about it. I don't want to give up.
Antonio and I like #5! (He told me so on flickr.) It's supposed to be abstract and impressionistic. Maybe, it needs more work to impress.
I'm glad that you like #1, Donald! Here's another one from my blog that I took with the same idea. I just wish that my dof or focus was better.
And, regarding Kay...... I've heard the confession, "I promise that I didn't cheat" many times, now; so, I don't know.... I think that I should always take her side! It seems the wisest and, really, the only natural thing to do.
Thanks, all, again, for your input!
Oh, and, btw, Mr. F. Wirefox, I used the "deflector shield" (reflector) on #4 (the one that everyone likes the light on.)
Wow these flowers are amazing, and the depth of field is great this whole picture is just amazing.
I personally really like all of your pics. They really make me feel as if I am looking into a wide open room in a castle or palace. I find them all quite beautiful.
Okay... I almost always like something different than the rest... it must come from all the times my dad told me I wasn't everyone else, I was Mary Teddy and I still needed to be home at 11.I love number 5. The white pitcher looks familiar.
They are all beautiful, Katy. Nice work.
Oh, thanks, Mary! You, Antonio and I like that one. Mary, why did I think that you moved to S. Carolina??? Silly me!
oh, and sillier still.....I LOVE that pitcher, you know! Thank you, again!!!
And, thank you 'CRL' and 'username'! Welcome to CiC!
I really like #4.
#5 is cool too from an abstract point of view.
