Neil,
Yes you are right, the feedback I got was broader than I originally sought but valuable nevertheless as it is always useful to understand what other people "see" in a shot. My thanks to you and everyone else for the feedback.

Came up with this, but to be honest I'm not convinced that the perspective and/or subject matter and/or time of day are really sufficiently strong to make a great image?

Fwiw, in my opinion the ability to crop/edit/PP and make something out of relatively little is as useful/valuable as having a great eye in the first place.
