Nikon AF-S VR 70-300 f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED lens
Apart from my Welcome post, this is my first so please be patient!
Does anyone have experience of this lens? I am new to using a DSLR, have a D5000 and the 18-55mm "kit" lens and am looking for another lens that I can use at airshows, amongst other occasions. From reading around, this seems to be a better bet than either the 50-200mm or 50-300mm - not least because it is possible to overide the autofocus.
Any opinions will be gratefully received.
Many thanks.

HI Ivor,
I have the 70-300mm lens (on a D5000) and would recommend it.
Obviously something longer can be useful at times, but price and weight both jump by 2 or 3 times if you try for that
Here's one from last year;
Nikon D5000 + Nikon 70-300mm VR: at 300mm, 1/500s, f/11, iso200 (29079)
F11 and click image to see at 1200px × 720px to see it sharper.
Welcome to the CiC forums from ....

Thanks for the reply. I will be so pleased if I can eventually produce pictures like this one! The 70-300mm lens looks increasingly tempting.

Its a fantastic lens I use it on my D300s and the D200 before it.
Light enough to carry everywhere, the VR unit is awesome and its very versatile:

Wouldn't be without it. Used either on my D70 or D2Xs it produces beautiful images (subject to my own limitations!)

I forgot to mention that mine is on the camera 80% of the time since I got it
