Re: University Racing test day
Thank you Steve,
The background looks a bit odd because it was a light yellow/brown piece of grass that's out of focus because of the panning and rather shallow depth of field. By applying a colour-filter in black and white conversion it came out a little bleach.
the car isn't completely as it should in the above photograph. for example the nose-piece was left off, and there a High voltage running light on the rollbar.
Yesterday we had a Photoshoot with a reporter and photographer from Top Gear Magazine Holland on the circuit of Zolder in Belgium. I'll upload some shots from the shoot I did when laying alongside the professional Top Gear photographer in the back of a car racing on the track.

I Love the first one, nice and sharp but retaining the feel of movement. As the bike is in the middle of the frame it would probably take a vignette to accentuate it more:)
I see the bloke with the L-series glass only featured in shot 2. It looks like a 70-200 f2.8 so I think I would have got rid of him too:D:D:D Nothing like a bit of lens envy:o
Thanks Steve, Vingette? show me how :o

Thanks Jeroen, I wasn't sure if it was just from the conversion or not.
It sounds like a very good experience being with pro on the track. I look forward to seeing some of the results.:)

This looks great Steve, could you give me the details on how it was done?

No problem, it is quite straight forward really once you have done a few.
I first coverted the image to LAB colour (Image, mode, Lab Color) then (Image, Apply Image), using a blend mode of soft light and on the lab channel about 40% opacity. This just made the colours pop on the bike to start with.
Then you always have to remember to switch the colour back to RGB (image, mode, RGB but don't do apply image this time)
Then for the vignette-
Duplicate the layer and set the blend mode to Multiply at 100% opacity, the whole image will darken.
Add a layer mask to the duplicated layer
Then with the rectagular marquee tool and feather set to 250px select an area around the bike so that the selction area is about two thirds of the image size. When you let go of the selction tool the feather will kick in and give you a more eliptical shape. You just have to play around with the selection until it is the right size and then move it so it is centred over the bike.
Then press alt+backspace and it will delete a very soft hole throught he layer mask.
ctrl+D to deselect, flatten image and hey presto!
Give it a go, it's a great technique whenever you want to make your subject stand out from the background a bit more.
Cheers
Steve

The fourth one is my personal favourite because i seem to get more connection with the rider, being able to see his visor.
Number 3 makes me laugh because it looks like a squirrel has hitched a ride on his back:D:eek::D
Number 2 is a lovely shot but it seems a little squashed into the frame. Maybe a bit of space to the left to give him room to ride into??
Number 1 is really cool. Very good crop but oh wow, the colours make my eyes bleed:cool: A nice effect.
Thanks again for posting and please keep them coming:)
Re: Motorsport Pics - Post Them Here
I am loving those last two posts. I have to get to the track and shoot...You guys are making me jealous!

Number 1 is a great shot, nice sense of motion. i would however just clone the orange object of of the right of the frame as it grabs attention away from the subject.
2 and 3 are cool:cool:I love the fire:eek:
I like number 4 too, very different. If you look down the left of the car it looks like it is hinged in the middle:eek: It has made a fun shot out of something that might otherwise have been a bit static. Good Idea:)
Re: Motorsport Pics - Post Them Here
I see It's been a few months since anyone has posted here on this thread or my posting anything either so I'll bring this thread back out of the closet and post a few pics of images from an event that seems to be missing from this thread.I bought my camera a few weeks after this event went on in 2011 and waited all year for it to come back so i could post these pics.So here are a few images from the 2012 NHRA Gator Nationals in Gainesville,Fla for your C&C.Thanks for viewing.

Re: Motorsport Pics - Post Them Here
Hi everyone.
There sure arent MANY petrolheads here. Well I am one of the biggest petrolheads i know and the shots ive seen here are all just briliant. I am planning on going to Abhu Dhabi in 2013 for the f1. Has anybody been there? Any advice on where to sit to get the best shots. Will a 400 mm lens be enough. Any info on this would be good as I would probably only have a chance to do this once in my lifetime and id like to make the most of it.
