Thanks donald, these little guy's are very tough to shoot. You have to get extremely close to get a good shot, because of their size.

They are hard to shoot but they are very friendly and curious. Steve, this is beautiful! I'm impressed that you could get the black of the eye to show up. In all of my shots of them, the eye just always gets lost in the black feathers. I see that the highlight at the top of the eye is helping. Any other advice?

Thanks katy, the only advice i can give, is don't underexpose the shot. Eyes always come out too dark when you don't get enough exposure.

In post ,i raise the shadow detail ,with a reverse S curve. I also dodge the eye a little to brighten it up.

Really nice shot Steve. I do like the composition and colours and how none of the flowers interfer with the subject. I was wondering what focus mode you use in your camera?
