Guess what I'm thinking of ... (FUN COMP open to all)

OK, here's an idea that just dawned on me looking at this (Forklift).

This is an open thread, anyone (and everyone) is encouraged to contribute.

1) Think of a word.
2) Then photograph something that hints at it, but not of the subject itself
3) Post it here
4) Others guess what the word is (reply to the image, so we know which one you're guessing)
5) The image poster tells us when someone guesses correctly

A bit like 'guess the abstract macro', but not so straight forward.

We can have several on the go at once, no need to wait for the first to be guessed before submitting 'your' picture.

I just hope we don't fall foul of things being known by different names in different countries; e.g. bonnet or hood for the thing that keeps the rain off an engine in a car (or is it an automobile).

It's just for fun, if only because I can't decide which should win; something that takes several guesses or something that goes in one guess

I suppose I ought to have posted an example picture, but I'm too tired after having had the idea

Wait. I thought you said it was a noun. So are we thinking of what the thing does and then translating that to a noun?

My first guess was 'tension' but when you said it is a noun, I scratched that idea.

As for what it does, that's a coupler, right? So my second guess is 'Couple'.

Well done, Jiro - it's 'tension' which is a noun. The doohicky as Katy said is the tensioner on a wire fence. By screwing it either way you increase/decrease tension.

My apologies on the quality of the shot, this was taken years ago when I *really* had no clue what I was doing and was just snapping away. These days I have only slightly more of a clue...
