Re: Holly, my goldendoodle
Nice pic. So she's a cross between a golden retriever and a poodle?

Yep...
Holly's dad is a Chocolate Standard Poodle and her mom is a Golden Retriever. Labradoodles (Labrador Retriever + Poodle) were first bred in Australia as service dogs for persons who were allergic to dogs. The Labradoodle was such a success that the Goldendoodle cross was started. They make equally good non-allergic service dogs and either shed not at all (Holly had several litter mates who had the really curly coat of a poodle and would not shed at all) or, like Holly, shed minimally and are non-allergenic to all but persons with the worst allergies to dog dander. The 1/2 Lab or Golden plus 1/2 Poodle are called F-1 Doodles. If an F-1 Doodle was bred back to a Poodle (resulting in 3/4 Poodle and 1/4 Lab or Golden) the result is an F-2 Doodle; almost perfectly non-allergenic and non-shedding. The Labrador or Golden instincts still make F-2 Doodles good service dogs of all types. Both F-1 and F-2 Doodles also make great search and rescue or disaster recovery dogs.

Thanks for the compliment on the picture - she's a great dog. Holly is smart as a whip, friendly to everyone but she has a bit of watch dog deep within her and will challenge a stranger who comes into the yard. I doubt if she would ever bite but, strangers are not absolutely sure about that! At about 27 kilograms (~60 or so pounds) she is big enough to discourage intruders but, I can be walking down the street with her and people often come up and pet her when she is unawares. She just looks at them with her big brown eyes and kisses them. I have never received so much attention regarding any dog I have owned and that encompasses a lot of dogs. She loves little dogs and kids too!

We have the same except we call them a Groodle. Dougall, our Groodle, is 30 Kg of lazy, spoilt dog who eats like a horse, bark's all night and generally drives me nuts. But we love him all the same.

Mark,
Generally describes dogs. Every dog I have owned does that. I will always have a dog.
