Makes me hungry Maybe using a slightly off colored plate as the white plate is getting lost in the background.
May also not let the fore shadow drift off the edge so much...I find my eye getting lost in the background, but not because of the plate color, moreso because of the lack of definition in the background. Otherwise, nice shot!
Is the name"sunburned" referring to the short cooking time, hopefully not faster than the shutter speed?

For me it's just having some sort of contrast so that the plate doesn't disappear into the background. I think we need to be able to see the back edge of the place. Clearly, you don't want a background that's going to compete with the food on the plate. I'm no colour expert, as I've said on here many times before, but I wonder if a subtle, muted background that maybe picks up a theme from one of the food items, would work.
I think I'd want to go and study some food or household magazines to see how the professionals handle food shooting.
